Hours

Inside the salon: two raised tubs, grooming tables, folded clean towels and daylight from big windows

Meet the groomers

Two groomers, two shop dogs.

You'll get one of us, start to finish. No kennel drying, no handing your dog to a stranger mid-cut.

Maya Reyes, smiling in a denim apron, holding a freshly groomed poodle by the salon window

Maya Reyes Owner & groomer

Her dog: Pepita, a 9-year-old chihuahua mix who supervises from the front desk.

Maya opened Cactus Comb in 2018 after eight years grooming on East 6th. She's the one who'll call you mid-groom if your doodle needs a shorter clip than we planned.

Joe Whitaker, bearded and in a bandana, holding a French bulldog in the bright shop

Joe Whitaker Groomer

His dog: Biscuit, a French bulldog who hates baths and loves the blow-dryer.

Joe does the double coats and the nervous first-timers. He's patient with a husky in blowing season and keeps a running list of which dogs prefer the quiet tub.

How a visit works

Three steps, about two hours.

  1. 1

    Sniff & consult

Drop-off takes five minutes. We check coat, skin and nails together, agree the cut, and confirm the price before your dog goes on the table.

  2. 2

    Wash, cut, cuddle

Warm bath with a tear-free shampoo, blow-dry on low, then the cut. Breaks and treats whenever a dog needs one — no restraints, no cage drying.

  3. 3

    Fluff reveal & report card

We text you 20 minutes before pickup. You get a photo, a written report card (coat, ears, nails, anything to watch) and a bandana if your dog tolerates one.

★★★★★

“Maya took one look at Gus's matted ears and said she'd try to save the coat instead of shaving him. He came out looking like a proper schnauzer.”

Priya · Travis Heights · Gus, miniature schnauzer

★★★★★

“First groom for our puppy and Joe let her sniff everything before the clippers. She fell asleep during the blow-dry. We're booked for six weeks out already.”

Marcus · Zilker · Nell, beagle

★★★★★

“The report card told me about a hot spot I hadn't noticed. That's not a groom, that's a check-up. Winston's coat has never been softer.”

Dana · Barton Hills · Winston, golden retriever

★★★★☆

“Took three hours for the husky blow-out and worth every minute — the pile of undercoat on the floor was alarming. Parking out back made drop-off easy.”

Ellis · East Austin · Kona, husky mix

Questions

What Austin dog parents ask us.

Something else? Call (512) 555-0147 — Maya answers between grooms.

My doodle is matted. What will it cost?

Matting adds $20–$45 on top of the $85 doodle groom, depending on how close to the skin we have to go. We'll tell you the exact price at drop-off before we start, and we never shave a doodle down without asking you first.

Does my dog need shots to be groomed?

Rabies and DHPP need to be current, and we ask for your vet's name so we can check — titers are fine. Bordetella is required for day boarding only, not for a groom.

What if my dog is nervous or snaps?

Tell us on the booking form and we'll book you at 8am when the salon is quiet, work at your dog's pace, and stop for breaks. We use a chin rest and a Happy Hoodie instead of restraints, and we'll call you if a dog is too stressed to finish safely.

How long does a groom take?

A bath and tidy runs 60–75 minutes, a full groom 90–120 minutes, and doodles or double coats 2–3 hours. We text you when your dog is in the tub and again 20 minutes before pickup.

What's your cancellation policy?

Cancel or move a groom up to 24 hours ahead at no charge by calling (512) 555-0147. Inside 24 hours we charge $25, and a no-show is the full service price — we hold that slot for one dog only.

Answers

Grooming questions, answered.

Tap a question below. Still unsure? Call (512) 555-0147 between grooms.

Do you groom anxious or older dogs?

Yes — anxious, older and special-needs dogs get the quiet 8am slot, a chin-rest instead of restraints, and breaks whenever they need one. We'll always call you if a dog is too stressed to finish safely.

How should I prepare my dog for a groom?

A short walk and a potty break before drop-off, and skip breakfast if your dog gets car-sick. Tell us about any lumps, hot spots or sore paws on the booking form and we'll take a look.

Can I stay and watch?

You're welcome to stay for the five-minute consult, but most dogs settle faster once their person heads out. We text a photo mid-groom so you can see how it's going.

What's the difference between a bath & tidy and a full groom?

A bath & tidy is a wash, blow-dry and light trim around the face, feet and sanitary area; a full groom adds a full body and face cut for a finished shape. If you're not sure which your dog needs, pick the full groom and we'll adjust at drop-off.

Do you take walk-ins for nails?

Yes — the $28 nails and teeth touch-up is walk-in friendly Tuesday through Sunday. Call ahead if you'd rather not wait, especially on Saturday.
